Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 Plan

Mitsubishi may have looked like it was struggling in the North American market, but its newly announced Momentum 2030 plan packs many surprises. The company plans to add new models, new dealers, and expand electrically! What else does Momentum 2030 have in store?

 

 

While Momentum 2030 includes internal traditional gas-burning cars, the spotlight is on battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models coming to the North American market. One of these models could be the Mitsubishi Delica. Debuted in the 2023 Japan Mobility show, Mitsubishi showed off an electrified concept named D:X, or Delica:X. A van for the NA market would be groundbreaking for the company, a new area of competition to excite the public in the era of van life and electric hype.

 

 

A nameplate not seen in the US since 2006, Mitsubishi has officially filed patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the Montero name, specifying ‘automobiles’ and dozens of other uses in February of 2024, shortly before the Momentum 2030 announcement. Another promising vintage name returning is the Lancer Sportback, a nameplate not seen since 2017. We know that Mitsubishi is teaming up with Nissan to bring new hybrid and electric models to the US, and the update to these two models with new patents could signal hybrid or electric powertrains with redesigned bodies for the new decade.
